The Defeat of my Life

Hi, today I am going to talk about a contest I entered and I remember it very well not only because it was a great contest but also because I lost it. I remember that day as if it was yesterday. It was a sunny day, no I am just kidding I don’t remember it very well. One day my parents told me that I would enter in a contest and I was very excited because I am extremely competitive and I like all kinds of challenges, so the day they told me I was a little confused but then after the explained to me I understand it very well, the game was about balloon explosions, the one who exploded all of his balloons first won the contest.

I know that this contest doesn’t seem like a big deal but at that age it was the best thing. So finally the day of the contest came and I was feeling nervous because I didn’t knew what would happen, so when I reached the place of the contest I was feeling even more nervous, you can imagine how I was feeling, it was a pretty big deal for me. The time of the contest was so near I could even imagine it how it would be. Finally after all the waiting the contest started we were like 6 kids competing, all the nervous feelings disappeared when it started, I knew that being nervous wasn’t going to solve anything, from the second it started I started exploding the balloons, I had to explode ten balloons in order to win.

At first I didn’t start very well the contest because It was really hard, for that age, but then something happened and I realized that I could do it so a t the middle of the contest I was one of the first three places and I knew I needed to be first so I could win, so in the second half of the contest I was very electric and I did everything very fast and it was so great because I really felt I could win, so I was so excited that I exploded the next three balloons very fast and I was going to win but something strange happen, somehow I couldn’t explode the ninth balloon and I tried and tried but I couldn’t and I was so frustrated that in no time the second place was tied with me.

I grabbed the last balloon and I was going to explode it and win the contest when the balloon slipped off my hands and flew away, when I went for it and I grab it the other kid had already won the contest, I was feeling devastated I couldn’t believe that I had lost the contest, being so close to winning that I thought it was impossible for me to lose, but unfortunately it happened. I was crushed because I felt that I had already won when the balloon slipped off.  After that day I saw all the contest from a different angle, every time I look at a contest it remembers me about the one I lost when I was little.

I think that the worst of the defeat wasn’t the defeat itself but the illusion I had of winning the contest, but that day showed me a very important lesson about defeat that I would never forget. It showed me that you don’t always win but you have to know how to win and how to lose because it is all part of life. I think that you need to know how to lose first in order to know how to win and that day showed me the importance of not only being a good competitor but also wanting to reach and even higher goal that is really the importance of having contest and competitions. Defeat is part of life and you need to know the difference between knowing how to lose and loosing that are two very different things. Even though I lost, I liked the experience and I will do it again until I finally succeed because that is my final goal. That is my story of the day.

Guatemala, the best weather in all the entire world

The weather is something very important in the world and there are many types of weather but the one that I am going to talk about is the one that occurs here in Guatemala, in Guatemala the weather is incredible, it’s never too cold nor too hot, the temperature is about 20 degrees Celsius and there are many days with incredible sun. Guatemala is called the country of the eternal spring because the weather is perfect here, when you look up at the sky you can see the blue color of the sky very well and the sun is always shining without a cloud blocking the sunlight, although it’s a great weather there are some days with mostly all day raining and the rain can be seen from two sides, the one that the people mostly in the city see, that is boring to rain all day, and the one from the people in the rural areas where they needed water in order to save their crops. Living in Guatemala is so great because the weather can help you have a good day, if the weather is good you feel better than when it’s raining, practically all the days that are with so much sun are the days when you want to go outside and play in the park or just do something in the open space, this is very possible in Guatemala because of the position of this country in the world, here it never snows nor its too hot so living here makes it perfect for the people who don’t like extreme weather, the type of weather that I like the most is when the sun comes up, and the best station of the year for me is summer because it makes me feel great just looking outside the window and seeing that beautiful view with no clouds and a great blue sky makes you want just go outside and just lay down on the grass and just appreciate the greatness of the sky and the beauty of it, but for me when it rains it is just such a sad day for me it just doesn’t encourage you to go out and make many things outside you could do when the sky is clear. I also like when it snows but here in Guatemala it doesn’t snow so I can’t see here snows and do many things you see that people do when it’s snowing you see the fun they have throwing snowballs at each other and running in the snow or making snowman, it just looks like a lot of fun to me and it’s something I always wanted to do but because of Guatemala’s weather condition I won’t be able to see it happen here, I would just see it if I go on a trip to some place where there actually snows. For me the weather is a very important thing in life because for me is what it gives meaning to the day, for example when I am going to school and I see the sky completely blue it makes me think about what the world is all about and gives me forces to keep going with my day, I just sit and keep staring at the sky thinking about the greatness of it while I am waiting for the bus, I would be happy if all the days where like that but I also know that is bad for the people in the rural areas because they need the water in their farms in order to harvest their crops and have something to eat because of that id what the people live for when they have no money to buy food so I think it’s good, even if I don’t like it, to rain some days and have sun the other days, and that is the reason why I think that Guatemala has the best weather in all the countries in the world.

A great childhood memory

In all my life my biggest hobby has been soccer, not only playing it but watching it also. I have the advantage that I was born in a country where there is a national soccer league and that I can go to the stadium whenever I want. I have been in the stadium a lot of times in the course of my life, not only attending to watch the Guatemala national soccer team but also my favorite team from the national league called: Municipal, I have attended to many games of this club since 2000 until now I keep going because its very fun and it’s a great place to be. The event that I recalled the most and that I am going to talk about is when Municipal won the fifth straight championship (A new record of straight championships ever reached until now), this event happened on December of 2006, I remember it very well, it was a Sunday morning, 11:00 to be exact and I was getting to the stadium early in order to find a seat and be able to watch the game, I sat on my seat approximately 15 minutes earlier of the start of the match and I was feeling nervous because I knew that I could be in presence of an historic event. When the game started all the nervous feelings disappeared and I was anxious of seeing a great soccer match, as always in that time the stadium was absolutely full, 28000 people approximately supporting their favorite team, and the greatness of the game was that it was against the biggest rival, Comunicaciones, Municipal only needed a tie to become the champions so the kind of entered the game with that mentality, the first minutes where terrible for the team, very disorganized and without precision, at the 30th minute of play the worst thing that could happen occurred , comunicaciones took a shot and the ball passed the goalkeeper and went into the net, being the first goal for them, that was a wakeup call for Municipal they realized that they needed a goal in order to become champions, so the worst thing that could happen became one of the great things, they attacked and attacked and it was a very fun match since then, at halftime the game was 1-0 against my team so I was feeling kind of nervous about it but at the start of the second half, watching how the team was playing calmed me a little bit, and the pressure was so much that in one play at the middle of the second half the greatest thing happened Municipal scored the goal that would give the their fifth straight championship breaking a new record, the last few minutes where the most suffering minutes I have ever felt, my team was defending with all the players they had and the other team was attacking with all their players too, finally the greatest sound I have ever heard occurred, the sound of the referee’s whistle indicating the end of the match, the most exciting championship of all, the history made that day, the feeling that I felt on that day was indescribable, they have done what no other team had made in the entire Guatemalan history, and they had the right to celebrate with the more than 25000 fans that where supporting them. The moment of the ceremony occurred,  the time to crown the champion first the second place went to receive their medals and their runner up trophy when that part of the ceremony was over the real part of the ceremony began the moment to crown the champion, after each player receive their medals they were given the cup, and the moment of lifting the cup was the mostly remembered of all, when it happened exactly at the time the captain lifted the cup all the fireworks began to explode and was a great show, after they celebrated they started running through all the stadium, that day was a day I will never forget because it happened the event that I mostly recall from my childhood and from my entire life too, it is a great memory I will never forget.
